The Mid Wales Shakespeare Centre is about people. It is a focus for interest, research, a venue for communication, experiment and performance. It’s home for Shakespeare Link, host to community groups or touring companies, and a retreat for local or visiting enthusiasts.
The Living Willow Theatre: At the heart of MWSC is an open-air theatre. Glôb Byw - the Living Willow Theatre is a unique performance space, which welcomes and nourishes an eclectic mix of arts events and especially Shakespeare. The Living Willow Theatre will host events from April to September- from syllabus Shakespeare for schools through community productions and professional tours.
The library: The Millennium Stadium Charitable Trust and the Laura Ashley Foundation have given kick-start funding to buy books, scripts, prints and DVD’s for a library specifically related to the works of Shakespeare and the magical history of Wales. This resource will be available for education, reference and research to the local community and beyond.
The Organic Environment: Shakespeare’s plays teem with metaphors drawn from the life of plants and animals and the Mid-Wales Shakespeare Centre offers a chance to share in some of his inspiration of rural life.
Environmentalist Ursula H. Bowen M.A. , M.Biol, C.Biol., is aiming to re-establish, in the organic hay meadow, plant species which Shakespeare would have known and which are found in his plays. Press here to see Ursula’s findings (Press here to view a .PDF document).
A kitchen garden is also being planted with Elizabethan culinary herbs, and a children’s nature trail with natural treasure hunt is being laid.
